UNAMPLIFIED TRANSDUCERS
SYMPTOM/PROBLEM:
ACTION
No Output:
Verify correct wiring.
Verify excitation per calibration sheet.
Make sure pressure, load, etc. is being applied.
Check strain gage bridge for continuity per
Transducer Checkout Guide (please scroll down).
Erratic/Intermittent:
Check electrical connection for discontinuity or damage.
Output or Zero Drift:
Check for isolation resistance between bridge wiring
and transducer body.
Make sure pressure, load, etc. is constant.
Check stability of excitation power supply.
Check millivolt output with voltmeter.
Check for RFI/EMI interference.
Make sure there are no rapid changes in temperature.
Incorrect Output:
Check actual input and output resistance per Transducer Checkout Guide (please scroll down) for possible change or open bridge.
Check zero offset to see if high.
High Zero Offset:
Usually indicates transducer was over ranged beyond specifications. Over ranged transducers should be recalibrated.

TRANSDUCER WITH INSTRUMENT READOUT
SYMPTOM/PROBLEM:
ACTION
Erratic Display:
Check electrical connection and wiring code for pin layout.
No Display/No Output Voltage:
Check power line fuse per instrument instructions.
Blinking Display:
Indicated overload; make sure wires are all connected and transducer is within its range.
Incorrect Readout:
Check transducer range on label.
Verify that system was set-up per instructions. Review set-up procedure.
Refer to Transducer Checkout Guide (please scroll down) and verify that transducer operates properly.
Use Resistor Shunt-Calibration to verify calibration when integrated with Instrument Readout, or connect resistor across (-) Excitation and (-) Signal. Refer to Certificate of Calibration for correct resistor value.

TRANSDUCER BRIDGE RESISTANCE
INSTRUMENT REQUIRED: Digital volt meter (DVM) set to Ohm scale.
Record resistance values:

  If all measured resistance readings fall within listed tolerance, proceed to the SHORT TO GROUND step (please see below)  
  If measured resistance readings at TEST COND. 1 and 2 are in the range of 1400 Ohms, this would indicate an open bridge. A reading in the range of 2100 Ohms at any of TEST COND. 3 through 6 would also indicate an open leg of the bridge.  
  the result is an open bridge, see instructions on obtaining service under warranty or non-warranty (please see below).  
     
  SHORT TO GROUND  
  INSTRUMENT REQUIRED: Digital volt meter (DVM) set to Mohm scale.  
  Short all transducer wires to one probe from (DVM), and touch the other probe to the transducer body.  
  NOTE: If the transducer is anodized aluminum, try touching the probe to the threads for a bare metal contact  
  If the measured resistance is infinite proceed to ZERO OFFSET step (please see below).  
  If the measured resistance is between 10k Ohms and 200K Ohms, the transducer bridge could have gathered moisture.  
  TIP: Try placing the transducer in a convection oven at 100 degrees F for one hour. Remove and re-measure resistance to ground.  
 

If the measured resistance reads between 1 Ohm and 5 Ohms, continuity within the bridge is evident. See instructions on obtaining service under warranty or non-warranty (please see below).

 
     
  ZERO OFFSET  
  INSTRUMENT REQUIRED: Digital volt meter (DVM) set to millivolt scale 10 VDC power supply  
  Connect the Red and Black transducer leads to the 10 VDC power supply.  
  Red (+ Excitation) to 10 VDC  
  Black (- Excitation) to return ground  
  Connect the Green and White transducer leads to the digital voltmeter (DVM)  
  If the DVM reads higher than +.300 millivolts or lower than -.300 millivolts, the transducer has been over-ranged beyond specifications.  
  TIP: Most transducer instrumentation can balance out a zero offset of + 2.000 millivolts. However, an over-ranged transducer should be re-calibrated. See instructions on obtaining service under warranty or non warranty (please see below).  
     

Limited Warranty on Products
Any of our products which, under normal operating conditions, proves defective in material or in workmanship within one (1) year from the date of shipment by Transducer Techniques, will be repaired or replaced free of charge provided that you obtain a return material authorization from Transducer Techniques and send the defective product, transportation charges prepaid with notice of the defect, and establish that the product has been properly installed, maintained, and operated within the limits of rated and normal usage. Replacement product will be shipped F.O.B. our plant. The terms of this warranty do not extend to any product or part thereof which, under normal usage, has an inherently shorter useful life than one year. The replacement warranty detailed here is the Buyer's exclusive remedy, and will satisfy all obligations of Transducer Techniques, whether based on contract, negligence, or otherwise. Transducer Techniques is not responsible for any incidental or consequential loss of damage which might result from a failure of any Transducer Techniques, product. This express warranty is made in lieu of any and all other warranties, expressed or implied, including implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for particular purpose. Any unauthorized disassembly or attempt to repair voids this warranty.


Obtaining Service Under Warranty

Advance authorization is required prior to the return to Transducer Techniques. Before returning the item(s) either write to the Repair Department c/o Transducer Techniques, 42480 Rio Nedo, Temecula, CA 92590, or call (951) 719-3965 with: 1) a part number; 2) a serial number for the defective product; 3) a technical description of the defect; 4) a no-charge purchase order number (so products can be returned to you correctly); and, 5) ship to and bill to addresses. Shipment to Transducer Techniques shall be at Buyer's expense and repaired, or replacement items will be shipped F.O.B. our plant in Temecula, CA. Non-verified problems or defects may be subject to a $75 evaluation charge. Please return the original calibration data with unit.

 


Obtaining Non-Warranty Service

Advance authorization is required prior to the return to Transducer Techniques. Before returning the items, either write to the Repair Department c/o Transducer Techniques, 42480 Rio Nedo, Temecula, CA 92590, or call (951) 719-3965 with: 1) a model number; 2) a serial number for the defective product; 3) a technical description of the malfunction; 4) a purchase order number to cover Transducer Techniques, repair cost; and, 5) ship to and bill to addresses. After the product is evaluated by Transducer Techniques, we will contact you to provide the estimated repair costs before proceeding. The minimum evaluation charge is $75. Shipment to Transducer Techniques shall be at Buyer's expense and repaired items will be shipped to you F.O.B. our plant in Temecula, CA. Please return the original calibration data with unit.

 


Repair Warranty

All repairs of Transducer Techniques, products are warranted for a period of 90 days from the date of shipment. This warranty applies only to those items which were found defective and repaired; it does not apply to products in which no defect was found and returned as is, or merely recalibration. Out of warranty product may not be capable of being returned to the exact original specifications or dimensions.
