Create a data logging system utilizing a SSI instrument
SSI-DLS Data Logging Software
Point-to-Point Communications via RS-232
Concept

SSI-DLS data logging software turns a PC connected to an SSI portable hand held smart sensor indicator into a powerful, low-cost data logging system.  This is a windows application with an easy interface to the SSI to simplify logging, recalling, listing, plotting and graphing of measurement data.

Data can be displayed and logged

The program format allows the user to select a data source and a data destination in combination for either viewing the data on the screen as a virtual meter, or listing. Plotting or graphing the data or for storing the data in either a computer file or Excel.

Source Selection

SSI Continuous Mode Real-Time Values-The program commands the SSI to send measurement values over the RS-232 interface at a constant rate determined by the SSI Menu selection Ser_1, digit 5. Each measurement sent consists of either the reading, peak or Valley value or any combination of the three. An option is to include the Alarm information.

SSI Logging Mode Real-Time Values- By the use of the SSI front panel Log key, the user dictates when the above data is sent over the RS-232 interface.  Included with the data are the Time and Date stamps, the measurement Units, the type of values being sent (Reading, Peak and/or Valley), and the Memory# location if the displayed value is being simultaneously logged to memory.

SSI Memory Recall- The data stored in memory is downloaded over the RS-232 interface and includes the Memory# location if the displayed value is being simultaneously logged to memory.

Existing Computer File- If any of the above three data sources were previously stored to a computer file as a Destination selection, that file may now serve as the data source for viewing. Listing. Plotting or graphing.

Virtual Meter Display- This is a screen presentation displaying all of the Source data. Memory recall and computer file source values are read and stored in computer memory before viewing and may be conveniently scanned via a slider.

List- This is a screen listing of Source Values, either Real-time Values as they are received or memory recall and computer file values as selected.

Plot- This is a screen plot of Source Values. Either Real-Time Values with a horizontal time coordinate or Memory Recall and Computer File Values with a horizontal Memory # or Record# coordinate.

Graph- This is a screen histogram of Source Values. Wither Real-time. Memory Recall or Computer File Values with a resizing vertical scale of Number of Records and a horizontal scale of discrete Values.

Computer File- This screen facilitates recording any of Source data, except from an Existing Computer File, either to new computer file or to an existing computer file by either overwriting or appending the data.

Excel- This screen facilitates recording any of the Source data, except from an Existing Computer File, either to a new Excel file or to an existing Excel file by either overwriting or appending the data.

Hardware

The SSI indicator can be connected to a PC using an RS-232 line. The computer must be PC compatible, operate under MS Windows 95 or higher, and have an available COM1 to COM9 serial port.

Software Installation

The SSI-DLS Data logging Software can be downloaded from this website at no charge. Click here to download the self-extracting install file. The free download version allows operation in the Demo Mode, which provides a good indication of the capabilities of the software. Connection to actual instruments requires a 12-digit activation code, which will be emailed by Transducer Techniques upon full payment. This code must be installed within 10 days of issue.
